The University of Zurich is fully committed to promoting equal opportunities and inclusion. We aim to improve barrier-free access to knowledge, university services and buildings and endeavor to remove existing barriers. We want to be a place where all people can join in and contribute.
People with disabilities face many challenges at university and at work.
In 2021, UZH carried out a survey among 231 students with disabilities. Chronic illnesses, neurodivergence and mental impairments were the most common conditions among those surveyed. Students with a visual, hearing, speech or physical disability made up a total of 10 percent. A detailed overview over the results can be found in the report “Bericht Studium und Behinderung” (in German).
UZH aims to be noticeably more accessible and inclusive than today within five years. As part of the UZH Accessible project, the university is systematically recording existing physical (building structures), digital (web and teaching materials) and cultural-organizational barriers and developing binding measures. The first structural changes and long-term improvements to e-accessibility are planned from 2025.
